Tax Department presents Prinsjesdag Special 2025
17 September 2025 | 20:00
Athora Netherlands' Fiscal Affairs department has traditionally carried out an analysis of the new cabinet plans presented on 'Prinsjesdag'. What do these mean in tax terms?

Just before Prinsjesdag 2024, the then new cabinet presented its programme. That cabinet has since resigned and new elections are scheduled for 29 October 2025. This often means that the outgoing cabinet takes a cautious approach to tax plans. Despite its outgoing status, there is a theme. Last year it was “Solid budgeting for prosperity and stability”, this year it is “Responsible budgeting for a stronger economy”.
In this fourteenth edition of our Prinsjesdag special, we are taking a slightly different approach than usual. First, we will discuss the core message and rates of Prinsjesdag. We will then focus on the changes that will affect financial products in the area of retirement provisions and life insurance (including box 3) in 2026. The reason for this is that these topics are only mentioned to a very limited extent in the tax plans.
