Secure Internet

Using the internet should be safe. That is why at Athora Netherlands we do everything we can to protect and secure the data that you share with us over the internet. There are also measures that you can take yourself to safely use the internet. By working together, we can ensure that your data remains secure.

What is Athora doing to ensure a safe internet?

We make sure you can use our websites as safely as possible. We do this by:

  • Using two-step authentication.
This is also known as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) or two-factor authentication (2FA). This ensures that no one can log in using just your password, because an additional verification step is always required—for example, via your phone.
  • Using secure connections
You can recognise a secure connection by the padlock icon in the address bar and by “https://” preceding the domain name. Always check whether the web address is actually from Athora. For example, if you see https://www.athora.nl.imitatie.nl, you’re on imitatie.nl and not on the real Athora website.
  • Security Tests
We have the security of our websites regularly tested by security experts and closely monitor new developments in the field of online security. This ensures that our websites always use the most appropriate security methods and techniques. Our systems are continuously monitored so that we can quickly detect any suspicious activity and respond immediately.

What can you do yourself?

In addition to our measures, there is a lot you can do yourself to protect your data. Below you will find the most important recommendations. For more tips and up-to-date information, visit veiliginternetten.nl.

  • Regularly check whether your email address or phone number has been compromised in a data breach, for example via Have I Been Pwned or the police’s “Check if You’ve Been Hacked” service. Keep in mind that these services are never comprehensive. Change the passwords for any accounts where you know the password has been leaked.
  • Use only trusted devices and networks. Avoid public Wi-Fi, as others may be able to eavesdrop.
  • Be on the lookout for phishing emails and suspicious links.
  • Do not leave devices logged in or unlocked unattended: lock your device, take it with you, and log out.
  • Keep your devices up to date with the latest software and security updates. Use an antivirus program and do not install unauthorised software.
