Athora Netherlands Announces Changes to the Executive Board

Athora Netherlands N.V. (Athora Netherlands) announces today that Jan de Pooter has been appointed as member and chair of the Executive Board and CEO of Athora Netherlands and its insurance subsidiaries, effective July 8th 2021. The Dutch Central Bank (DNB) has approved the appointment and the Works Council of Athora Netherlands has given a positive advice.
Maarten Dijkshoorn, chair of the Supervisory Board of Athora Netherlands, says: “We are very pleased to welcome Jan as the new CEO of Athora Netherlands. Jan is a proven leader and brings a wealth of experience. His track record in successfully leading business transformations will significantly benefit Athora Netherlands as it executes its strategy to become the number one pension provider.”
In addition, Stefan Spohr will step down as member of the Executive Board and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Athora Netherlands per August 1st 2021 and return to Athora Group where he will resume his responsibilities as Managing Director of the Athora Germany holding company, Athora Deutschland Holding GmbH & Co. KG (Athora Germany) and take on the role of Managing Director at Athora Group, reporting to the CEO and working alongside the Management Executive Committee (MEC) to support further strategic alignment of all entities within the Group.

Stefan’s expertise has enabled the organisation to significantly progress the implementation of this operating model change. With execution now well underway, Stefan will return to Athora Group where he will focus on further strategic alignment of all entities within the Group and resume his role as Managing Director at Athora Germany. Biography of Jan de Pooter
Jan de Pooter (1969) joins Athora Netherlands from Portuguese insurer Seguradoras Unidas (Tranquilidade), where he served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) until January 2020. From 2005 until 2015, De Pooter held various leadership positions at Millennium bcp Ageas including Chairman of the Executive Board. He started his career as Operations Manager at Fortis Investments Netherlands.
